Our Story

In 1979 our family moved to Yakima from Florida to be near my wife’s family. Having had years of experience in the telecommunications field, I opened Mills Communications.  We contracted with the local cable TV provider to install new service throughout the Yakima Valley.  In 1981 we moved our crew to the Portland area to install cable.

In 1983 we opened a retail store in the old windmill building on S. 3rd St, called Sights and Sounds.  We specialized in home and car stereo equipment. As we grew, we expanded into early satellite TV, installing residential systems with the big 10’ dishes.  With the development of home video, we brought in VHS and video disc players and then, movies for rental.

Then, in 1986 we opened a second location, Car Stereo, on South First St., with a larger space for installation focusing on auto sound products.

In 1992 we moved the Sights and Sounds business to a larger facility on South First next to Les Schwab where we are currently located.

Fast Forward to 2006, we started learning about bio diesel and added selling DIY biodiesel producing equipment to our repertoire.  We offered classes on “How to Make Bio Diesel from Used Fry Oil,” and sold the equipment and supplies for making diesel fuel.  Our retail name changed to Cost Less Energy. 

Through the interest in alternative energy, in 2007, I learned about other forms of alternative energy, finding solar and wind suitable in our Central Washington area.  Because of code limitations with Wind, we found Solar to have broader application in the Yakima area.  Over time we changed our company name to reflect our emphasis on solar power and our expertise to help customers with electrical needs and are now known as AllCities Solar and Electric Company.
